Identity kit · Version 1 · 2 October 2026

Climate risk is spatial. Your decisions should be too.

The working reference for the Climate & Geospatial Intelligence Group identity: the marks, the palette, the typefaces, the graphic language and the voice — as they are actually built on cgig.co, not as an aspiration.

C&GIG horizontal lockup: the mark beside the Climate & Geospatial Intelligence Group wordmark

01 · The marks

Three lockups. One mark.

The horizontal lockup is the default. The stacked lockup is for dark grounds and square-ish spaces. The mark alone is for avatars, favicons and anywhere the name is already present.

Horizontal lockup on paper
HorizontalDefault. Site header, letterhead, slide footers. Minimum width 160px.
Stacked lockup on ink
Stacked, dark groundCovers, dark sections, square placements. Minimum width 120px.
C&GIG mark
MarkAvatars, favicon, app tiles. Minimum size 28px. Never redraw it.

Do

  • Keep clear space on all four sides equal to the height of the mark.
  • Place the stacked lockup on ink (#101923) or atlantic (#173B4D).
  • Use the supplied files. The masters live on cgig.co.

Don't

  • Recolour, rotate, outline, or add a shadow or glow.
  • Stretch, condense, or rebuild the wordmark in a system font.
  • Put the light lockup on a mid-tone photograph or a coral field.
  • Pair the mark with a second logo inside the clear space.

02 · Colour

A working palette, not a mood board.

Eleven tokens carry the whole identity. Paper and ink do the work; coral is the only call to action; lichen appears in small warm marks and the background grid. Click any swatch to copy its hex.

Illustration palette

The hand-inked Earth-observation illustrations use their own set. It is deliberately warmer and dirtier than the interface palette, and it never appears in interface chrome.

Contrast rules

Coral (#EF6248) is a fill colour. On paper it reaches roughly 3:1, so it carries buttons, rules and large display type — never body text. For coral as text on a light ground, use coral ink (#B23A25). On ink, coral is legible at display sizes and above.

03 · Typography

Fraunces, Inter, IBM Plex Mono.

A serif that argues, a sans that explains, a mono that labels. All three are served from Google Fonts; nothing else is licensed for the identity.

Observe. Verify.

Headlines and section openers. Optical size axis 9–144. Italic, in coral ink, carries the emphatic second clause of a headline — the one device the identity repeats.

Risk happens somewhere.

Body copy, interface labels, buttons. 20px at 1.65 for running text; 600 weight for buttons and small uppercase labels.

Display and section sizes are fluid: the first number is the phone end, the second the desktop end at a 1140px measure.

04 · Graphic language

Hand-inked evidence.

Illustrations read as field documents: a hand-drawn globe, a graticule, hazard contours, a satellite track with a dashed footprint, and a monospace annotation giving a pass time or a return period. The annotation is not decoration — it states what the picture is claiming.

Icons

Two strokes, two colours: atlantic for the container, coral for the thing that matters inside it. 48px grid, 2.5px structural stroke, round caps and joins. Never filled, never multicoloured.

Geometry

Two radii, one hairline, no shadows anywhere. Depth comes from the ink panel, not from elevation.

05 · Voice

Say the uncomfortable part.

The identity is carried as much by sentence construction as by colour. Short declarative sentences. A claim, then the thing that undercuts the comfortable version of it. No hedging, no vendor warmth, no exclamation marks.

Precision is not accuracy. A detailed map can still be confidently wrong.Approach · 02
“The model says so” is not a risk strategy. It is an abdication with better graphics.Approach · 02
Never a dashboard destined to become expensive wallpaper.Engagement · 04
Insight is only useful when it moves. If the analysis changes nothing, it was decoration.Approach · 03

House style

  • British spelling: organisation, recognise, defence.
  • “C&GIG” in running text; the full name on first use in formal documents.
  • Sentence case for headlines. Uppercase only for mono labels.
  • Numbers, dates and coordinates set in IBM Plex Mono.

Avoid

  • “Solutions”, “leverage”, “cutting-edge”, “seamless”.
  • Claiming certainty the data does not support.
  • Three adjectives where one verb would do.

06 · Files

Where the masters live.

The images on this page are web-resolution copies. The original PNGs are on the main site; take them from there for print and for anything that will be scaled up.
